Merry Christmas!

I came outside this morning and caught Santa's Reindeer out in our pasture! There's Dasher and Dander and Donder and Blitzen.

And then...........

The neighbor's dog came and chased them away. No presents from Santa this year!

Scene from the farm this evening

When I was done feeding the horses this evening, this is what I saw on the way back to the house.

Never thought I'd post one of these on here!

But here it is, a "Bear "Butt! Bear is such a character, when you go into his stall, this is usually what you will see. He isn't being rude or trying to kick,,he simply wants you to scratch his butt!
Bear recently had an episode of "Choke". What is choke? You can read more about it here:

Tom and I attempted to clear his blockage with a water hose. (*Note, if you have never done it before, do not attempt to do this if your horse chokes.) We were unsuccessful, so we called our Vet- Dr. Scarrow. Dr. Scarrow had him unblocked in about a minute. For those of you who have horses and are in Southern Va, in or around Burkeville, Farmville, Phenix, crewe,, I really recommend using Dr. Scarrow. His office can be reached at 434-248-5880.
Bear choked because he is 33 years old and has hardly any teeth. He chews his hay into a ball (commonly known as "quids") and spits it out. Sometimes, he is in such a hurry to eat his grain, which is actually grain mixed with so much water, it's soup,, he doesn't spit out the quid. So, from now on, Bear can't have any hay until after he has finished with his "soup". We have quite a few old horses that have to eat their grain as "Soup". Dr. Scarrow jokingly refers to this place as "The Soup Kitchen".

Ok, so I got a little carried away

I did a bad thing. I was taking out all the old post and rail fencing and I took it out all the way to the road. I was only supposed to take it out as far as the gate. So, I spent the morning replacing what I tore out. I did, however, add a little zag over to the gate, so that gap was filled in. These pics are the result of my labor.

*Note: This fence only surrounds our hayfield. It is not used, nor would it be safe, to fence in horses.

"Foot-of-Fence" Sponsors needed

We are in need of a quarantine facility. We have the perfect area to put one in, we are just lacking funding. We are going to use 440 fencing for the paddock (see next blog entry for info on this fencing) This fencing is pricey, but it never has to be painted, won't rust and it's very sturdy. The cost of this fencing is 12.75 a linear foot. So if you'd like to sponsor a foot-of-fence, please use this address for paypal- wingsofangels@yahoo.com please put:

"I'd like to sponsor ________Feet of fence for quarantine facility" in the info section.

Thank you very much!
