"Closed For Lunch"

This little dog was out on the Hwy, running up to cars as they were driving down the road. I couldn't let her get hit, so I pulled up and opened my door, she jumped right in. Good God Almighty! What a stink! No she didn't have a run in with a skunk, she was just THAT dirty. She has a bald spot on her chest and at first I thought "Mange", but after closer examination, it looked more like a hotspot from fleas.

I couldn't take her home, already three dogs there and can't take the chance of exposing them to something. So I drive to the local small town where a new "Rescue" has opened. They refused to take her, stating, "We don't take in strays". (Go figure) So I sat in the parking lot and pondered this small dog's fate. I had run out of options, so reluctantly, I drove over to the animal control station. I drove up to the front door, and there hung a sign, "Closed For Lunch, Be Back at 1:30"
Well, it was just barely 12:00 and I couldn't wait there for an hour and a half!

I had no other choice but to take her home. I placed her in a kennel in the garage and started searching for options on the net. I found a wonderful woman who runs a rescue in Monticello and she agreed to take the dog. Meanwhile, while the woman made arrangements to have a vet take her in for the night, I went out and spent some time learning more about this scruffy dog. She was very sweet, wanted lots of attention. She knew "Sit, Stay and Lay Down". I gave her some water, which she drank a LOT of and then she came to me and just pressed her face into my chest and let out a long sigh. My heart just melted, but I knew I couldn't keep her.

Came the time for me to take her up to the vet clinic and when the Vet tech went to take her from me, the little dog had decided I was her mom, and almost bit the woman in her face, (she really was sweet, she was just protecting me.) I had to carry her in and put her in the cage myself. It was hard leaving her there, but I can't afford another dog.

Here in Ga, the animal control shelters use the Gas Chambers to euthanize dogs and cats. It's a very gruesome way to go. This little dog's life was saved by three little words "Closed For Lunch".

Saying goodbye to my best friend

On February 15th, my best friend and guardian, Moe, will be euthanized. His medicine no longer works to control his pain. He has been my companion for the past 4 years and even though it's hard to let him go, it's the kindest thing I can do for him.

The Animals Need Your Phone Calls!

Case details

Post below came from Fugly Horse Of The Day

Maria Huffman is skating with time served! The defense and prosecution wants 90 days (they served that already) and 5 year ban on owning animals. (yeah, like THAT will work!).

There is time to call Judge Ira Uhrig. He does NOT have to accept the terms of the guilty plea. PLEASE print his number on your blog so people can call him!! 360-676-6747. That is his direct office line."
Sentencing is February 5, 2009 (this Thursday!).

Here's a news story with more details:

http://www.bellinghamherald.com/onpatrol/story/774899.html

"The three were arrested on Oct. 27 and released. As part of their release, they were ordered not to possess any animals, but four dogs were found living in a kennel on the property Maria Huffman and Wopat rented, according to charging documents filed in Superior Court.
Their landlord ordered the dogs removed, and a neighbor told investigators that he saw Wopat on the property late at night Oct. 29, according to court documents. Two days later, the neighbor found the dogs with their throats slashed. Only one puppy survived, and she is now doing well."

These are classic repeat offenders. They will NOT stop on their own! They need to be locked up and for long enough to think about the horrific crimes they have committed.

Time served, my you-know-what! Please call Judge Uhrig at 360-676-6747. It should go without saying that polite, succinct and profanity-free is the way to make your point. To me, the most important point is that someone who will slash the throat of a puppy is awfully close to the line of doing just that to a human being. That shows a level of depravity far beyond hoarding and starving animals (which is bad enough!)
